Happy New Year! Yes, it is a new year....and goals..oh yes...goals. uck! This should be an amazing year. In a few months we will be heading to Artfest in Washington. I can hardly wait! And then there is Stampaway in August. Just a quick note...You will be hearing a bunch about both of these events.

So...We submitted class proposals for Stampaway 2012. I am so excited to hear if the classes have been accepted. I am not really sure when this will happen...but we will update you when we hear! The theme this year is steampunk. We will have a booth...and the booth number is...We're #1...Oh yeah! With new images in the works, and many finished, new samples are on the way!
Another area that we are working on is our booth decor...it is going to be off the hook! Our booth will be amazing this year. We have started making new samples and even new altered books. If you would like to contribute new samples for our booth...we always welcome them!

So the spark was to make a stencil and use it in your art. I found this old alphabet card and, it being close to Halloween, did a bat. I used an ink pad I had in my car and a paper towel. I changed the banana into a moon....and tah dah...done. I did this during my break at the paper. (work)

Day 12 of 365 days of art and Stampaway 2012

The spark was to take a dollar bill and make something. So....I made a boat and it is on the water....clever.....ohhhh yes! Hey, it was 11:30 at night and I was looking at another 5 hours before I got to go home...so clever it is.
In other news....I have been working on my new catalog. I am combining all the supplements with main catalog and even adding new images. These images will premiere in Cincinnati, Ohio at Stampaway 2012. I am so excited. I am re-working the look of the catalog and our booth. I plan to post more stamping samples....when I get a wee bit more time....don't hold your breath...for long...it could happen...in the near future.

The spark....make something really, really small. so I cut out this paperboy. I did not have fine detail scissors so I use full size scissors. I places him on a newspaper at work. I cut the man out of that same brown paper that I made the ten-word story from. (see last blog)

Okay I was making an ad piece for work and the feeder on top is what I started with. I added the green background, Nuthatch, and the holes in the suet...I love it! It has been a hit.

Soooo day five came and left....bye. Fridays are my crazy days where I have no me time....are you buying that? This is what I started...I am going to make his eyes red...yes it is a him. I am soooo not anywhere near started...but I got a ribbon on him and put glow-in-the-dark around his eyes...I will be working on him tonight and tomorrow!

Speaking of tomorrow, I am going to see the new movie The Big Year. I can not wait! Ohhhh yes!

Day 5 of the 365 days of art

Hello...so the spark today was to use something you collect in the piece. That would be hard...I am an artist...we collect everything. So at the paper tonight there was an ad with Ladybugs on the whole page. I cut some out and cut the wings. Then folding them made them look like they were flying. I thought...why not use aluminium cans. I watched people throw their cans away and started gathering them and washing them out. At home I have a large trash can (outside) lined that I toss them in every morning. When the can gets full I take them to be recycled. So I cut up a can, used a marker to make dots and tah dah...done...kinda on the crafty side but C'est la vie.

The spark...take a 5 minute walk, make something and leave it. Take a walk for 5 minutes...are you kidding me? Who has 5 minutes..okay...I do not have 5 minutes. But I did make something and I did leave it outside...Now in the 2nd photo you will see a poor little Hummingbird...It is way dead. Probably some big bird got a hold of it...or old age...poor little thing. The peanuts are from Wild Birds...It was fun and my boss totally did not get it.....score!

Day 3 The spark is to make something with no scissors and/or glue.

When they run newspapers through the press they have to run ink first to calibrate the colors. This usually means that there is some very nice and colorful paper...see photo above. This paper goes to a recycling company in the city. But alas, I grabbed some and used it for this project. I made a twisty rose. very easy and fast!

Day Two...the spark is use your favorite animal as your inspiration. Birds would have been my pick...that was too easy... so I picked fish.

Here is what I did...I took a photo of a guy who also works at the paper.( His name is Jon.) My hand was actually part of the photo...He was 10 feet away from me. Holding my hand up to his head I took the photo...so it looks like in the photo that I have a hold of his head. Using Photoshop I cropped out all the back ground and left my hand and his head. I added the cloud background and the fish bowl....Done.

I bought a new book

As many of you know I have two part time jobs...besides everything else I do. I have little time to work on art. But that has all changed. I still have my two part time jobs but I have added a new book as an inspirational tool. It is called 365: a daily creativity journal: make something every day and change your life.

So I started yesterday. Above is yesterdays piece. I picked a theme for the 365 pieces that I will be creating over the next 365 days. That theme is....wait for it....my two jobs. I work in the mail room at the local paper and I am a certified bird feeding specialist at Wild Birds Unlimited here in Norman.(Oklahoma) Each day the book gives you a little spark...yesterdays spark was make something to fit in the palm of your hand. This piece is not really done...I need to add age...with ink.

Here is what I did: I started with a piece of brass wire and formed into a heart. I found the ads that I had seen in the newspapers when applying for both jobs and added them. Grabbed a red drop that I got out of the trash at the bird place ( it is chipped...and is "trash") and stuck some mail stickers (that I use everyday in the mail room) on it. Tah dah done.

Sooooooo....we just got back from a week in CO. Oh, it was soooo hard to leave the 70 degrees temps for this drought land I call home. It is 10am and already 90+ degrees. Holy Moly! Well, in one week we will be leaving for Cincinnati .... Stampaway 2011! It is an awesome show and the classes are great. Tressa is all but packed...I, on the other hand,....not so much...So this morning and (I am sure) all week will be packing, gathering, pressing rubber, assembling stamps and cutting paper like a mad girl to be ready for our classes. Oh the fun! I love Stampaway! Our classes are full and I am looking forward to the week of creative minds coming together! I will have an update on Wed. about how it is going....until then....Create something.......

Barn Swallows

Well it is June....Summer time! It seems like the snow and ice was just here. It is already in the upper 90's...yes it is HOT! (And it is not a dry heat, like that makes a differences in a convection oven.) Summer is such a great time of the year. Everything always seems more casual and restful...a time to renew. What will you do to relax and renew?

Just a quick up date

We have been so swamped with orders and requests our heads are spinning!

We need an extra 6 hours in the day to get done what needs to get done. All that said...The Orioles are in town! We are seeing both the Baltimore and Orchard Orioles! These are amazing birds! They are eating pounds and pounds of grape jelly! My mother has had a flock of about 25 or so at her house! Like I said it is amazing and exciting! I should be posting again soon so be looking for that!

The Hummingbirds are coming!

Every spring I look forward to the arrival of them. They are amazing little birds. There is a neat website...

This site tracks the migration of the hummingbirds. People can add their sightings to the map. There is also maps from past years. It is truly exciting. I have already put out a couple feeders for them. The Orioles also arrive around the same time as the hummers. Sooooo I have also put out an oriole feeder. The Starlings have found the grape jelly. Last season it was the Mockingbirds that found the jelly. Of course any of the fruit eaters would love it. So there they sit, the feeders, waiting in the open sunlight, visible to all the tropical vacationers on their way back for the Spring and Summer months.

So if you happen to see the hummingbirds or even the orioles, email me! I'll just wait here by the kitchen window....watching....and waiting.

Stampaway 2011 class samples!

So we found out that both Tressa and myself will be teaching at Stampaway 2011 in August. The dates are; Friday August 12th (preview party), and Saturday the 13th. They will be sending out brochures in early April. If you send a SASE (.75 cents) to Stampaway Convention, 9685 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, OH 45242 they can get one to you. We are very excited about this convention. It is, hands down, one of the best convention in the country. Work has already begun getting ready for this most awesome show. We will post a photo of Tressa's class soon.

This sample was made by Linda Clancy of Edmond, OK. She had sent it to her friend (and our new friend) Eileen Hemann of St. Louis, MO. Eileen ordered some stamps from us and shared this awesome sample with us. How clear is this story? The stamp that is ours is the lady....from a stamp duo called Regal ladies duo... WI 79 H. I love this stamp and have used it many times. So props to Linda and Eileen! Thanks ladies!

Hummingbirds watch 2011

I am looking forward to the Hummingbirds coming back to Oklahoma! They are at least a month away from arriving. Last year we did not have as many as in years past. The two photos above are of a Ruby-throated hummingbirds. He has his tongue out...Oh March, come on...I am also excited about the Baltimore Orioles. They arrive even before the hummers. Yippy! I will of course keep you posted.

Presidents Day 2011

It is February....heck...you could even say that it is drawing to a close. This year is marching by. I have taken the time to look over the long list of goals and other 'to do' items that I created at the years end/new year. I must say...holy smokes I have got to get busy! The classes for Stampaway, that my mother and I submitted, were accepted! YES! We love Stampaway! We will be posting photos of the class projects soon.

Everyones gets thirsty....

This poor little squirrel, after eating (a lot of) suet and the bird seed got awful thirsty. So being clever and problems solver, ate some snow. He is really cute. There have not been tons of squirrels....now Red-Winged Blackbirds and Starlings.... they are here in numbers....and I mean big o' numbers. I've also seen Cowbirds....both males and females. (ugh!)

We, here in Oklahoma, finally received some seasonally appropriate weather. Two weeks ago I was wearing my sandals. So needless to say this past week I was wearing my thick socks and leather short boots. The bird were out in record numbers. Above there is a Cardinal, Downy Woodpecker, Carolina Wren, and the last picture is of two Starlings. I love the colors of the Starlings. The birds have been eating, eating, eating! The snow has began to melt. We should have one more day of warmer weather (45 degrees). On Tuesday and Wednesday the weathermen are talking more snow. (I kinda hope we get more snow this week!)

Blue Jays and peanuts

Blue Jays are always being called mean or aggressive, some folks don't like them....but if you really think about it, they are a pretty cool bird. Here's how I see them. In a ground feeder I put out peanuts in the shell for them. What a Jay will do is fly down, pick up a peanut, shake it, put it down an pick up another. They are searching for the heaviest peanut and then takes off with it. Jays will cache their food. They are highly intelligent and are problem solvers. So as you see there is more to this bird then meets the eye.....

Red-bellied Woodpecker

The Red-bellied Woodpecker has been visiting quite frequently. I see it mostly on the (roasted) peanut feeder. Today I saw him (it is hard to tell the difference between male and female) on the birdbath and on the ground feeder. He is so large and amazing.

It was on a crisp Sunday afternoon at the train depot in Norman, Oklahoma where poetry filled the air. A perfect setting for a quartet of poets. Sarah Webb, Carl Sennhenn, Dena Madole and Carol Hamilton read from their works. It was really good and I enjoyed it tremendously.

Guest artists ATC's and Tag ATC's

I was going through samples....you know....getting organized. I came across some great samples. These were done by a online stamping group (OOS). I sent them a bunch of stamps and the sent in samples. The top tag duo was sent in by Patty Dennis. She used the following stamps; The big day DL 35 G, Guilty DL 41 D, and Egypt WI 33 E, Hawk WI 35 A, and Egyptian dreams WI 32 C.

The second set of ATCs are unsigned, but are wonderful all the same.The stamps used are; Leafy branch PM 16 C. One the second one she used Carved Dragonfly NT 04 E, Big day DL 35 G and Enjoy the moment DL 17 B.

The bottom card is slightly larger the standard ATC size of 2.5 x 3.5, however, very clever. It was created by Sondra Long of Ft Lauderdale,FL. She used Branch PM 07 C, Scallop (lg) PM 13 E and Hawk WI 35 A.

I will post more of the samples in the next few days.

"Transparent Animals"

I went to one of the most interesting lectures this past week. It was about nerve cells and research for regeneration. The name of the lecture was "Using Transparent animals and florescent nerve cells to understand the brain and behavior." It was given by Joseph R. Fetcho. He is a professor at Cornell University. The University of Oklahoma Cellular & behavioral neurobiology graduate program and the Sam Noble Museum are the hosts. Amazing stuff!

The next lecture is called "Thinking like a leech: Complex decisions in a simple nervous system. William B Kristan, Jr is a professor at the University of California, San Diego, and will be giving this lecture.

Inspiration and my arttitude

'Tis the season to wear warmer clothes, bake treats, craft new projects, and ready oneself for the upcoming cold winters evenings. Well, okay....it is a bit hard sitting here in shorts cuz the weather is still in the mid to upper eighties. I do long for the fall. A cool front is coming in tonight and it should be 78 degrees tomorrow, I will still be wearing short pants, but it will be nice. The weather people say we may even get so rain....and how we need it....we are in a small drought.

And did you know that this month of October, 2010, there are 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays....This happens only once in 823 years or so.....mind blowing at best...yes?

Okay well it is off to bed.....

Earthquake in Oklahoma, Shake, rattle, and roll!

So, the big news from Oklahoma......the Earthquake! Sure we get little ones here and there...but wow.
When you see someone the questions run like this;
"Did you fell the quake?"
"Where were you?"
"What were you doing?"

And where was I? Glad you asked...I was at a stoplight near the railroad tracks. I had four thought one right after another.
Why is my tush shaking...spasm?
Why is Nick (a friend of mine) jumping up and down on my car?
What is wrong with my car?
Oh my, my car is haunted? ( late night Paranormal State watching)

I got to work and was waiting for an aftershock. I wanted to feel it when I was not in a car....no such luck, well there will be another....I will be waiting.

Here is a quick little wooden shrine. The stamps used are Louise (the little girl), Muffin (the kitten), and pup (the dog). The box was painted and decorative paper was added to the background. The images were stamped on cardstock, colored and then cut out. There is foam tape on the back of Louise and she is affixed to the background. Muffin and pup are attached to the forefront. It is a cute, quick and easy project perfect for a lazy Saturday.

Here is something I made today.....You know every once in awhile it is good just to play....create art just for the sake of creating something....not for a show, not for a class, not as a gift...just 'cuz! I just grabbed 10 objects out of a box...

(you know the box....where objects collect.....where we hoard our treasures because "some day I am going to use it is some special project".....but ohhhhh...I just can't seem to bring myself to use it...), anyway, I grabbed them and went for it! Yippy ! So now back to stamping.

Paris passion with DP Artworks

Mary Sue in Texas sent us this sample she made using one of our stamps called Lovely day. It is a wonderful way of using this stamp!

This is how she did it:

She stamped the image twice. Cutting the background out of the first image, this leaves the tower and the grass and bushes. Placing the cut out image in front of the second stamping, she secured it in place using foam dimensional tape. The color was added using water color pencils and then added "flowers" in the grass using Flower Soft. If you are unfamiliar with Flower Soft it is little bits of (I believe) plastic, that are cut in small irregular shapes. When put on paper Flower Soft looks like flowers. Lastly she layered the piece using two types of purple paper and then added paper flowers to finish the piece.

Hummingbird moth

So, as I was washing down the table after cutting up watermelon, I happen to look up and saw this amazing Hummingbird moth. The 4 o'clocks ( not pictured here) was what had attracted its attention this evening. Moving from one bloom to the next it made its way around. The dark was creeping upon me and I still need to fill the bird baths and water some of my plants.....It was amazing!

Papertrix, Nashville, IN

Before Stampaway in Cincinnati Ohio, my niece and I drove to Nashville Indiana to Papertrix. First off, let's talk about Nashville....CUTE! It is a busy town set in the rolling hills. I fell in love at first sight. There were people walking around and visiting the many shops and businesses. We located the store (Papertrix) with the help of Cindy and Wayne....the owners of the store. It is an awesome store packed full of every supply you would ever need. Cindy and Wayne are amazing as well. We dropped off a trunk show, visited, and did a little shopping. If you are ever in Indiana it is well worth the trip to this delightful store....and tell them I sent you!

Well, we are in Cincinnati, Ohio. Stampaway was really amazing! Everything went so smooth and fast. It will soon be back to "normal" routine. yuck. I totally enjoy talking and visiting with all our friends that come to the show. We did our booth a bit differently this year....I can't wait to post the photos. I will be getting a new monitor so.....I will be back to posting on a regular basis! Yippy! Until then.......

Vicki Bridges and DP Artworks rubber stamps

Vicki Bridges is a friend of ours here in Oklahoma. She lives in Moore, a town just north of us. Moore is also the home of And Bear Makes 3 where she teaches stamping classes. And Bear Makes 3 is our local and most awesome rubber stamp store! Vicki has created this book by altering book board circles. There are collage elements as well as layering of inks, surface treatments, and papers. Metal embellishments are used to complete the book along with ribbons. It is an awesome little book! Thanks Vicki!

Pictured above is a Baltimore Oriole battling the rain drops to get to the grape jelly. They absolutely LOVE grape jelly. Oriole have such vivid coloring! Anyway. there you go...

Here is one of the Christmas/winter cards sent to us from Bobbey. It uses DP Artworks stamps: "Peace on Earth" WH 05 D, and "Wonderland duo" WH 10 E. She has embossed both the tree and the words. She used a glitter pen to highlight each layer around the tree. The snowflakes are die cuts. I like this card a lot because it is a very peaceful card.

As you may know I love birds. The two photos above were taken this morning.
I actually got to see a Downy Woodpecker feeding it's young. That was the coolest thing ever! We have orioles visiting daily and a hummingbird now and again. The hummers are slow in coming this year...I am not really sure why.

And now back to the stamping biz....I am going to be posting some Christmas and Holiday cards that Bobbey has sent us. Until then...

Bobbey strikes again! New card samples using DP Artworks rubber stamps

We received a envelope from Bobbey Sakoman in NC just the other day....I have not even thanked her yet...But oh my goodness....Two of the cutest samples were in there! She used our sunflower stamp "Followers FL 14 F" for the first one and "Spotted wing butterfly NT 45 F" for the second one. She totally rocks samples! She teaches classes and if you ever get a chance to take a class from her, you will not be disappointed!

The sunflowers are stamped on a piece of inked glossy paper. I love working with glossy paper.

The butterfly was stamped, embossed, highlighted with a glitter pen and embellished with studs. (way cool!)

These along with many of her other awesome samples will be in our booth at Stampaway in Cincinnati, Ohio this August.(You didn't think I would go a day without talking about Stampaway....did ya?)

Lady Gaga, gardening, and loads of sunshine!

Spring has finally arrived! Today was spent creating and tweaking my backyard haven. I planted seven tomato plants, two eggplants, two bell peppers, and fifteen onions. I am far from done, with much work left for tomorrow. The morning will be filled with planting a variety of flowers, sunflower, beans, squash, watermelon, more tomatoes, onions, and another eggplant. The swallowtail butterfly (pictured above) had landed on the blooming lilac bush. I love Spring!

So how does Lady Gaga fit into all of this? Well, first of all, you must know that I love dance music. I love to dance! Grabbing my MP3, gardening tools, and ice water, I headed out to garden. My neighbors waved as I jammed out to Lady Gaga and worked. I was dancing, singing, digging, and planting. My grandmother always said, "If you can't sing well, sing loud". She would be so proud of me today! And so, Lady Gaga and I worked outside and got so much done....Thank you Stefani...aka...Lady Gaga....Bang bang!

Artfest 2010...Fun times!

Artfest 2010 was amazing!

It is held at Fort Worden, in WA, every spring. I believe there was around 600 people who attended this year. The photo above is the view from our cabin. We stayed off campus and a fair clip from the Fort. The drive was really beautiful and the cabin was great. Everything was lush and green.

Once again Tracy and Teesha Moore (and their whole gang) did an awesome job. I'll be posting more about Artfest in the next couple of days. We arrived home this past Monday and I have yet to unpack!

Winter/spring/winter/spring/what??????

As you probably know Oklahoma is known for it's weather...Tornadoes in spring, blazing hot summers, tornadoes in the fall, and ice in the winter. I love it! HOWEVER, Today it is 72 degrees....ah, the hummingbirds should already be here....maybe next week....I am wearing short pants and sandals, the birds are singing and flowers are blooming. (Here comes the however part!.....) Tomorrow we are having a BLIZZARD! It will be snowing and icy and cold....oh my. Someone did not get the memo that I am done with winter....been there... done that...over and over again. We had a crazy winter with lots of snow, and of course ice! I have now taken the hummingbird feeders down.I cut my flowers so I can enjoy them tomorrow while drinking hot chocolate and snuggled in a warm blanket.Arg!

So ready for the hummers!

Sharp-shinned hawk

We had a visitor for the last couple of days. This is a Sharp-shinned hawk. It is a small..... 11" long and one of the smallest accipiters. Anyway, yesterday it snatched up a Starling, which I might add are well feed on quality bird food. What a great thing to see out our studio....though I hope it moves on....it makes all the birds nervous.

We use these samples in shows, store events, and during stamp demos. We love to see what everyone creates with our stamps! So we will be posting, from time to time, some of our customers and sponsored artist's amazing works. The sample featured today comes from Wendy Samuels in FL. It is a nice use of the layering technique. Our Egyptian line of stamps have really been very popular this past winter/early spring. So thank you Wendy for your cards!

Okay, we are doing something a bit different on this post. Julia Roth (who sent us samples) and myself have been chatting back and forth via emails. I thought -"Hey, why don't we share some of this conversation with everyone." So here it goes......

Deena: Thanks for your email! I am glad you like the stamps. Let us know when you need some more stamps.....D

Julia: I see on your blog that you are posting samples and I have sent some for you. Please don't feel like you have to post them. I am pumped by your stamps and have so many ideas!!!! Julia
Deena: Have you tried the watercolor technique with the Reflection stamp yet?

Julia: Tell me one more time what to do.

Deena: There are several different techniques for this look. Here is one:

Using a piece of watercolor paper (of course regular cardstock will work) stamp Reflection (AS 21 E) with a Black Memories ink pad. Gather your watercolor pencils or markers and color the images working from the outer part of the image inward. (lighter touch with the open areas- this will create shading). Once you have the color down, (it will still look a bit odd) use a paintbrush and dip it in water and "paint" from the outer edges inward. You are actually moving the color around. If you need to add more color you can either 1.Use a scrap piece of paper like a palette, take your color pencil and scrub some color down and use your wet paint brush to pick up additional colors. 2. Use a piece of release paper, acetate, or plastic wrap to add color from your markers. Then use your brush to add color.

Another technique is to not use the black ink and use your markers directly on your stamp. After full coverage on your stamp, huff on your stamp, or mists very lightly and stamp, then use your brush to fade the clean lines and give it the watercolor look.

Julia: WOW! I can not wait to try this. I saw you do this in Ohio and I took notes but I was nervous to try. I will try it and let you know what happens.

She sent these in and we are happy to be posting them! They are part of the challenge I had posted about creating art. Thank you Shelli for these cards. ATCs are small works of art that are typically 2.5"x 3.5". They can be collage works, stamped, painted, printed, stenciled, punched, embellished, and actually no holds barred!

Trumpeter Swan

To end our birding adventure yesterday, we traveled to east Norman (Oklahoma) and found these wild Trumpeter Swans. They are currently hanging out in the Summit Lake addition (off of Alameda street). We saw a total of six. Word has it there are seven swans on the lake. Just a quick note.... the dark shadow on the bottom of each photo was created by the side view mirror....I took the photo from my truck and lined up the mirror just below the view path. TMI....C'est la vie.

So, my friend Nancy called the other day. She told me that she had seen a Grey-headed Junco. (In Norman, Oklahoma!!!!) These birds are not normally anywhere in Oklahoma! She had contacted some people from the Audubon Society (which she is a member). They came out and documented it. So, yesterday my mother and I hopped in the car and drove over to see it. Amazing! Nancy had birds galore. We also saw a Red-bellied woodpecker, Spotted-Towhee, several type of sparrows, Chickadee, Tufted-Titmouse, Purple Finch, Red-winged Blackbird, Goldfinches and so on...

Winter rolls on

Hello there,

As much as we are ready for spring to be here, it is not quite ready for us. I know it is only February, so colder weather is to be expected. I decided to post one of Bobbey's most awesome 3-D cards. It has a winter theme and is spectacular! The four stamps she used are; Peace on earth WI 05 D, Wonderland duo WH 10 E, Seasons LC (long cube) WH 23 F, and Pine background NT 47 J.

The middle photo shows the card closed. This makes it easy to send in the mail or, in our case, take to shows. In August we will have it in Cincinnati at Stampaway.

The bottom photo show the layers of this card. The center layer is embossed using the Pine background stamp. The two other areas that are embossed are the words Peace on earth and Wonderland duo. These are on the front of the card.

So thank you Bobbey for all your awesome cards!!!!

What I really like about the cards the Bobbey creates for us, is that they are so well made. They also inspire so many people. Every time she sends cards it is like Christmas around here! (I do not think she realizes exactly how good she is!)

This card was made by Vicki Bridges. It is a 5"x 7'' card with a watercolor effect.
The three stamps she used are; At home (DL 07 H), Leaf frame (MM 02 F), and Roosevelt (EL 02 D). I really like the way she did this card and how she uses the stamps so creatively. This card was also featured in a stamp art magazine (You go girl!). Vicki gets published quite often, so be on the look out for her talents!

Bonus info...

Here is a little background on the stamp At home. My friend, Lauren Elliott, from the San Francisco area drew it. She is an artist. What is really great is that she drew it with her left hand...she is right hand dominate. When we are in the San Francisco area we always stop by for a visit. (Which is not often enough.) So there is a little extra info for you.....enjoy. More samples to come......

Samples, samples, samples....oh my!

Here are some samples from a gifted artist here in Oklahoma. Her name is Cheryl Gebhart.

In the sample on top she used the stamps, Swirl background

(MM 33 F), Susan and Frank (AW 09 F), and Good friends (EL 03 B). All the images were stamped and then embossed. The background was embossed with both white embossing on black cardstock and black embossing on white cardstock. The cardstock was then cut and pieced together to create the finished background. It is a striking card!

In the sample in the middle she used Time flies (TM 05 E) and Carved dragonfly (NT 04 E). This card is made with glossy paper. The background was achieved by using alcohol inks, stamped with Carved dragonfly, cut and then pieced together. I love the look of alcohol inks on glossy paper. She did such a good job with this card.

In the sample on the bottom she used In grapes (VN 16 C), Glass & bottle (VN 10 F) and very faintly you can see Swirl background (MM 33 F). She stamped Glass & bottle on a piece of acetate. On the reverse side of the acetate she used alcohol inks and Diamond glaze, then backed it with a piece of paper. She then assembled the card.

The buds on the lilac were starting to come out. The days have been warm and spring was in the air.......and then............

We, here in Oklahoma, had an bit of an ice and snow storm. The photo above is an icicle hanging from the eave of our roof. The silver ruler is a foot long (that is some big 'ol icicles!). We lost our electricity yesterday and, needless to say, it is back on now. Yippy!

Spring really could not get here fast enough for me.

Although I love the winter birds, I am really missing the hummingbirds.

Besides wild bird seed and black oil seeds, I put suet and peanuts out yesterday. The starlings have now found them and are going to town. I am looking for the woodpeckers to find them.

It's a new year and time to get back to work. Our vacation has come to an end and everything is a buzz. The two samples you see above are from Bobbey Sakoman in NC. It's a beautiful thing!

Everyone, this time of the year, gets so excited about the holidays. It is hard not to just light a fire, dim the lights, and gather around all your favorite art supplies and just play! But alas, there are orders to fill, organizing to do, and webs to surf! If you find yourself wading into the web water, there is a great little blog you should put on you short list to visit.

Hello again. It has been a bit since my last blog, but I'mmmmm back! The photos above are samples from Bobbey. She has made an illuminating three sided, totally cute box, using cardstock and velum. The stamps she used are Pressed EL 42 F (This stamp was made using a photo of real pressed flowers) and Fern corner (lg) NT 62 E. Pressed flowers is stamped onto velum. Color is added using pencils. Fern corner is stamped to the corners to accent the hole that was cut in the cardstock. Bobbey found, and sent me, some battery operated candles My description (and photos for that matter) do not do it justice. What an awesome idea for the upcoming holiday season. Thanks again to Bobbey for her samples! (As always they are fantastic!!!)
